For an evening hike on Tuesday, Murray and I drove to K-Country to do a short
hike in the Sibbald
Flats area. We took the summit route, described in Gillean Daffern’s book. A short 3 km hike through the forest (still laden with snow, ankle deep), led us to the look off toward Moose Mountain and a view of a neat destination, the Jumpingpound
mountain summit. Once at the summit, the views of the Fisher Range mountains were spectacular in
the evening light. What a surprise actually, as with the beginning of the trail and the slight grade of the approach trail doesn’t lead you to believe that you’ll come to such a scenic look off. Usually a mountain bike trail, Jumpingpound ridge stretched out on both sides of the mountain — and looked like another attractive outing when combined with the bigger Cox Hill. Highly recommended. Watch for animals on the access road.
